What is NLP?

NLP is a remarkably empowering set of skills and techniques for achieving exceptional results in physical performance as well as in personal & business development. NLP is also an attitude and methodology that is requisite for anyone whose objective is physical excellence.

Neuro – relating to the nervous system and how we make use of our five senses: sight, sound, feeling, smell and taste (known in NLP as: visual, auditory, kinaesthetic, olfactory and gustatory) to interpret our experiences at both the conscious and the unconscious levels.

Linguistic – how we make use of our language to translate and influence our experiences and in NLP how we communicate our experiences both internally to ourselves and externally to others.

Programming – the method and sequence in which we ‘encode’ and utilise our experiences in the nervous system to achieve specific outcomes.

NLP can be described as how we gain an understanding of the filters of our unconscious minds including our thought processes, our behaviours and our experiences and most importantly, how we can learn to utilise these and make dramatic changes that will allow us to achieve our ultimate limitless physical potential.

NLP enables us to significantly increase our unconscious awareness and heighten our understanding of the nervous system as well as discovering how to take control of it to achieve our desired outcomes.

NLP was created in the 1970’s by John Grinder (a linguist) and Richard Bandler (a mathematician & computer programmer) when they asked themselves this question:

“What is the difference that makes the difference between someone who excels at a skill and someone with basic competence?”

It was this very question coupled with an immense curiosity that inspired John Grinder and Richard Bandler to commence their revolutionary work into the structure of human excellence that is now known as NLP. John Grinder and Richard Bandler used NLP modelling to study the physiology, linguistics, and psychological processes of meticulously selected models of excellence who where chosen for their ability to consistently produce exceptional results. The NLP modelling process developed to study the models of excellence provided John Grinder and Richard Bandler with the basis of the NLP patterns of excellence that are now being explicitly incorporated into OPAL Physical Trainings©.
